Hello Beekeepers! I’ve been missing for a few months. Been moving to a new home. I left Woodinville for Bothell, WA. The bees are still at the old place until Spring. I am seeing an end to my move, finally. Still have a few more things and some plants to move when the weather cooperates.
How are your bees doing this cold and wet Fall/Winter? Remember to clean out the bottom boards as many summer bees are dead and plugging up the entrance. On a nice day, take a peek to see if the bees are up on the top frames, if you are using the Mountain Camp method of feeding sugar. Or if you place the sugar on top of the inner cover, look to see if the bees are up there and replenish the sugar as needed. A quick check is all you need to do at this time. After the New Year, add winter pollen patties, which have a lower protein content so as not to have the queen ramp up her laying when it is still TOO EARLY.
Make sure to come to the January meeting if you need to order more bees. Vendors will be available to talk with you. Come at 6:30pm to hear the beginners’ lesson by Tracy Klein, Master Beekeeper.
Until next year, I hope you have a Happy Holidays with family and friends!
Kathy Cox, Master Beekeeper U of Montana
