Volunteering with PSBA is a rewarding experience – getting to share information about honeybees, honey tasting and seeing eyes light up at the sight of our observation hive is just plain fun! Build professional and personal skills and gain confidence in your beekeeping practices at the same time!
Even if you are a new beekeeper PSBA can always benefit from a smiling face and willingness to help.
Volunteer at a PSBA booth in the community – offer honey tasting, honey sales, and tell people about honey bees. See booth event dates on our calendar and signup today!
Volunteer by interest – PSBA could use help with the following items – but if you don’t see something that suits your skills, just ask! There’s probably an opportunity waiting just for you – Use your passion and skillset to help PSBA! Contact volunteer4psba@pugetsoundbees.org for more info on the below or sign up where links allow it.
Neighborhood Captains (beekeeping): Have some beekeeping expertise you are willing to share? Expand our neighborhood captain network of helpful beekeepers. Read more about this program and see our current list of captains – fill a gap where we don’t have coverage in a given area of town. Recommended experience: Apprentice level certification through WASBA and at least 1 year of beekeeping experience.
Apiary Work Parties (beekeeping): Need to build your level of confidence in your own apiary? Come get experience by helping manage PSBA’s hives and other apiary management tasks. Regular work parties are scheduled but there’s also opportunity to help at other times. Find a work party date and sign up (it’s free!)
Speaking/Teaching others about bees and pollination: PSBA gets many requests from schools and other organizations for beekeepers to present on the topic of pollination and bees. Audiences range from elementary school age to adult. PSBA supplies presentation materials and some basic training. These opportunities are fun and often enlightening for everyone.
Website/Blog Content Contributors: PSBA is in need of updates to our existing content and new juicy content. If you are a writer or researcher or just like to share your thoughts about bees, consider helping out with online content!
Social Media Management: Are you a social butterfly and constantly checking your Facebook or Twitter account? Want to use that energy to build PSBA’s social media presence? Expand upon our current efforts – strategize and operationalize our processes and to get up to speed in the social media realm!
Honey Sales: PSBA sells honey as our main fundraising vehicle – which enables us to continue our great training and education of beekeepers and the public. We sell honey at meetings, at Graham Visitor Center, Macrina Bakery in Sodo and to individuals. Honey prep and sales takes work though and having extra hands willing to pickup and deliver honey or manage the sales transactions (at meetings) would be a great service to the organization. Register for these events on our calendar.
