Rentals
EXTRACTORS
The club has extractors available for rent to members who need them. Rentals are limited to 1 week during the fall “busy time” of the year and 2 weeks at other times. No deposit is required.
There are four extractors:
- Two hand-crank extractors ($10/week). These are tangential extractors that can extract 4 frames at a time — a good choice if you are extracting relatively few frames. Each extractor is manageable for one person to transport and will fit into most automobile trunks.
- Two motorized extractors ($25/week). These are radial extractors that can extract 12 frames at a time. These units are great for large extracting jobs. The newer unit is light enough for one strong person to carry. The older unit is considerably heavier and requires two people to move it. Although these extractors are quite large, one member has fit both into the back of a Toyota Corolla wagon. The newer one has made it into the back seat of a Prius.
The club also has a couple of hot knives, an uncapping plane, and an uncappings tank. These can be borrowed along with an extractor rental if a request is made at the time of a reservation.
THE RENTAL PROCESS
To schedule a rental, E-mail Rob Stevens with the following information:
- Which extractor (and any other equipment) you want to reserve
- When you are able to pick up and drop off
- Your contact information
Rob will confirm the date and time and give directions to the apiary shed. Standard pickup and dropoff time is 5:30 pm Wednesday in the Graham Visitors Center Parking lot. Rental fees must be paid at the time of pickup.
Clean up and Return: All equipment must be returned clean and free of debris so as not to attract unwanted visitors to the storage shed and as a courtesy to the next user.
Late Fee: Please return equipment on time. For late returns, a fee of $2 a day will be assessed to a maximum of $25. If equipment is returned excessively late, future checkout privileges will be denied.
